How our Brewery team craft delicious beers
Did you know that we brew around 130 million pints a year? That’s enough to fill 29 Olympic swimming pools! Greene King pubs and restaurants have become a staple for people to get their favourite pints.
We didn’t become the nation’s go-to spot for their favourite beers overnight. Our Brewery teams bring our award-winning beers to life every single day.
Join our Brewery team in pouring happiness into people’s lives. We’ve got a range of exciting roles from Production to Driving waiting for you.
Learn how our breweries make beer and the hard work that goes into getting craft beers from barley to your local pub in this blog.
How your favourite Greene King beers go from barley to your local pub
The finest ingredients
Our craft beers are made up of four natural ingredients - water (liquor), malting barley, hops, and yeast. Each of these ingredients plays a special part in making the UK’s finest handcrafted beer.
Did you know that we sell our excess yeast to Marmite? Love it or hate it, we don’t like to see anything go to waste!
Brewing and blending
We can’t give away all of our secrets, but you might be wondering how our breweries make mouth-watering beer:
- We extract the water (liquor) from our chalk wells 200ft beneath our brewery. It’s amazing to think that we use the same liquor supply as the monks in Bury St. Edmund’s Great Abbey did 1,000 years ago!
- Then, we screen the malt and crush it to produce grist.
- The grist is mixed with hot water and then the hops are added in.
- The two are brought to a boil and then cooled down.
- This is then transferred to a fermentation vessel so some oxygen can get in there.
- We then add in the yeast, which converts sugars to alcohol.
- After it ferments, we pass the beer on to our amazing production team!
Bring your brewing and blending skills to Greene King and master your craft. We are always looking to find new and exciting ways to make great beer so if you are someone who has a passion for beers, Greene King is the place for your Brewery career.
