What to Expect as an Apprentice Chef

What to expect on your first day
First days at any job can seem daunting, but we’ll ease you into your new role here at Greene King.
You’ll get the chance to meet our amazing and passionate Chefs, your Line Manager and your Apprenticeship Trainer who will help you navigate these new waters.
Before you venture into a bustling kitchen, we want to make sure you are safe. So you’ll get a breakdown of how to use kitchen equipment safely and how to keep the kitchen spick and span.
What to expect in your first month
We deliver a great customer service so your passion for all things food and the desire to make the perfect dish every time is what will set you apart. You’ll get to grips with preparing, cooking and presenting food, the Greene King way.
In your first month, you’ll be soaking up knowledge from your culinary team and learning your way around our kitchens through a mixture of on and off-the-job training. You might find yourself in a workshop one day, and a webinar the next!
We want you to achieve your career goals and through a mixture of face-to-face, Skype, and phone catch-ups, we’ll keep you on track with feedback so nothing is standing between you and your goals.
We care at Greene King. Well, what does that mean exactly? It means we embrace individuality and care for each other, our pubs, our environment and the community.
If you don’t already have GCSEs in the bag, you’ll also get the chance to get Functional Skills in English and Maths. Unleash your full potential and get the most out of your Apprenticeship with Greene King.
What to expect at the end of the programme
The finish line of your Apprenticeship culinary journey is finally in sight! As you turn this corner, you’ll be surprised by the confidence you’ll have gained in the kitchen, the great relationships you’ll have built, and your ability to chop, slice, and dice.
And let’s not forget about the icing on the cake - you’ll be walking with a Chef Apprenticeship Qualification at the end of the 15-month programme.
With your new-found skills, it is time to take centre stage and shine in the kitchen. Our Apprenticeships are designed to set you up for success, so you can get out there and deliver dishes that tantalize the taste buds.
