International Men’s Day: A Conversation with Adam Taylor
As we celebrate International Men’s Day, we’re shining a light on the stories and perspectives of men across Greene King. Exploring what the day means to them, how they support others, and how they look after their own wellbeing. This week, we caught up with Adam, Communications Manager for the Brewing & Brands division, to hear more about his role, what motivates him, and his reflections on being a dad, a colleague, and a modern man in today’s world.
Tell us about what you do at Greene King?
I am the Communications Manager for the Brewing & Brands division of Greene King. I joined the business in August 2025 as Maternity Cover and I look after all divisional communications to help feature our wonderful people, celebrate our brilliant brands and give updates on the business performance.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
Being a jack of all trades! I could be editing a video, writing some copy for a Director’s message, creating visual graphics, posting on one of our employee communications channels or creating the next employee competition! No two days are the same and I am heavily involved with ensuring that our employees feel connected to the latest business activity and that they also feel heard with their thoughts and ideas.
How have you felt supported settling into your role so far?
I have felt really supported in my role since joining, everyone I have met at Greene King has been super friendly and very on board to assist if I have a query. I have regular moments to catch up with my line managers and the Leadership Team, meaning I get a range of input into what’s next and get several opportunities for feedback on what has gone.
What does International Men’s Day mean to you personally?
It means a moment to focus on what men can be and how we evolve what people think of men.
For me personally, as a dad of three young boys, I am always focused on bringing them up to be the best version of themselves. I want them to have a role model that is as in touch with their emotions as they are with their strength. Being a man is a complicated things at times and being emotionally intact and intelligent is a difficult thing to navigate, especially as we face different challenges. In my work life, it is important for me to try and be someone that celebrates others that succeed and to help others whenever I have the chance. I just try to put the help I have received throughout my career back into my own space.
How are perceptions of men changing?
For me personally, I think my generation of men have never been more in touch with what really matters. I look at the men around me in life, at work and who I socialise with, and I see a group of people who are fully ‘involved’.
I see a group of men that understand what’s right and wrong and are not afraid to call out others for their detrimental actions and help push change into future generations.
What helps you look after your mental health and wellbeing?
Regular exercise really helps me. I find myself ‘in’ my head a lot of the time and so to be able to have an hour a day to focus on nothing but breathing enough oxygen into my lungs really helps. I also love to hike when I can and be out on the path less travelled on mountain tops. My passion for photography and climbing random paths has made for some rewarding trips over the years. Another thing I find helps, that I would shout from the rooftops to anyone about, is meditation and breathwork. Having moments to connect with your mind and body is something that has become mandatory for me and does so much for me mentally. I would recommend anyone taking up a practice that fits their lifestyle.
How can we get men talking more openly?
I think there is more of a desire than ever for men to have honest conversations, but some people just need ‘leaders’ to help engage them to start. I have grown up so differently from the way my dad did, and I hope that my boys can grow even more radically than I have. Being a man is so many things rolled up into a unique human being, that is often lumped with a label such as dad, husband or brother. But a man is just that, unique. We all have endless opportunity to develop ourselves and be a good person for those we work with and those we love. For me, being a man is about being humble, hardworking, on the right side of good and a support for others.
What message would you like to share this International Men’s Day?
That you are enough, and that your defeats will never define you.
There are endless possibilities on the other side of being uncomfortable. Look how far you’ve come already.
