Behind the Cloud: Q&A with a Greene King Cloud Engineer

Meet Lee Millward, Cloud Engineer at Greene King  

From starting his career on the Service Desk to progressing through Infrastructure and now working as a Cloud Engineer, Lee Millward has built a wealth of technical knowledge and experience during his time at Greene King.  

In this Q&A, Lee shares his journey, what attracted him to cloud engineering, the technologies he works with, and the importance of continuous learning in a fast-moving industry. He also talks about his involvement in AI projects and why the future of cloud technology at Greene King is something he’s particularly excited about.  

What have you learned since joining Greene King?

I have developed my skills from Service Desk to Infrastructure Engineer now to Cloud Engineer which shows the knowledge I have gained throughout my time at Greene King, this has been accompanied by being able to go on courses to gain certifications. 

What attracted you to cloud engineering?

I was attracted to cloud engineering because it combines technology, problem solving, and continuous learning. I enjoy building solutions that have a real impact on how people work, and cloud technology offers endless opportunities to innovate. 

What cloud platforms and technologies do you work with?

Mainly developing resources in Azure using bicep Infrastructure as code, Microsoft Entra,All of the Office 365 Suite, D365 and Power Platform. 

What’s often misunderstood about your role?

I think a lot of people don’t really know what is meant by a cloud engineer, but really we're the people who build, maintain, and secure the systems that keep websites, applications, and business services running behind the scenes. 

What qualities make someone successful in this role?

A desire to learn new ways of working and embracing constantly changing technologies.
