The Cloud Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, 
secure, and resilient cloud infrastructure to support our applications and services. This 
role ensures that cloud environments are optimised for performance, cost-efficiency, 
and high availability while aligning with best practices and business requirements.
Working closely with engineering, support, and security teams, the Cloud Engineer 
enables agile and automated deployment processes, drives infrastructure-as-code 
adoption, and supports continuous improvement of cloud-based solutions. The role 
plays a key part in Greene King’s digital transformation by ensuring a stable, modern, and 
future-proof cloud ecosystem

  • Architect and Manage Scalable Cloud Solutions
  • Design, build, and maintain highly secure, scalable, and highly available cloud 
  • architectures that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Infrastructure Configuration & Management
  • Configure and manage cloud infrastructure components, including networking, compute, 
  • storage, and security services to ensure optimal performance and resilience.
  • DevSecOps & Pipeline Standards
  • Lead the definition and implementation of standards and best practices for CI/CD 
  • pipelines, with a strong focus on security and automation from the ground up.
  • Collaboration with Engineering Teams
  • Work closely with software engineering teams to assess, evaluate, and implement 
  • optimal cloud-native solutions for various applications and services.
  • Cloud Migration & Application Support
  • Support the design, migration, and optimisation of applications and databases for cloud 
  • platforms, ensuring performance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitoring & Performance Management
  • Oversee cloud service monitoring, logging, and data storage systems to ensure 
  • availability, efficiency, and early detection of potential issues.
  • Vendor Engagement & Cost Management
  • Partner with cloud service vendors to resolve technical challenges, optimise scalability, 
  • and control operational costs effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement & Process Innovation
  • Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for system enhancements, 
  • automation, and process improvements within cloud operations.
  • Technology Evaluation & Recommendations
  • Stay informed on emerging cloud technologies and trends; evaluate their relevance and 
  • potential impact, providing strategic recommendations.
  • Knowledge Sharing & Team Development
  • Train, mentor, and support the wider infrastructure team in cloud best practices, 
  • tooling, deployment strategies, and operational management

Qualifications

Experience of:

  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Hosting 
  • AWS Cloud Hosting
  • Common platform monitoring tools
  • Security
  • Disaster Recovery
  • Investigating/Troubleshooting IT Server Infrastructure related incidents
  • Strong experience in migrating on prem servers / applications to a cloud environment.
  • Cloud native platform monitoring / security / patch compliance services.

Knowledge of:

  • Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems
  • Cloud native network security
  • Azure IaaS and PaaS services
  • Azure ARM / BICEP for resource deployment
  • MySQL / SQL admin and maintenance
  • Development and DevOps processes / tooling
  • GDPR
  • Qualified in / studying towards relevant qualifications for role or equivalent 
  • Microsoft Azure Fundamentals

  • Microsoft Azure Architect Design
