Job description

You will build and lead a new Digital Engineering Centre of Excellence (CoE). This new CoE will define the Engineering and Testing operating model to deliver Digital priorities. You will work with external partners development teams to drive agility, quality and cost effective delivery for Greene King whilst also building our own inhouse capabilities as we take greater ownership of our technology strategy and delivery. This is an opportunity to build a function from the ground up, leading change across Greene King.
Reporting to the Director of Technology and working with other CoE leads, you will be a key part of the Digital Technology leadership group to ensure delivery of a clear technology strategy aligned to our corporate vision and strategy, fully supporting our customers and pub teams in delivering our Digital products.
This role will play a key role in the wider modernisation of the IT function and as such you will have a strong background in establishing and running digital engineering functions based on modern technologies and industry best practice and shaping new ways of working supported by automation and tooling to maximise throughput and reliability.

This role is a Head of (M1P career band).
As our Head of IT Engineering you will...
- Line manage team members including performance management and the development and retention of the team
- Deliver high quality software solutions to enable Digital development through internal and external partner resources
- Engage, enable and govern partner performance to ensure cost effective and high quality development services for Greene King
- Resource and recruit a new Digital Engineering and Testing CoE to include capabilities around Release Management, Testing, Integration Development, scrum management and wider application development.
- Create engineering and operating model strategies, standards, processes, documentation and knowledge sharing approach, tooling and reference solutions for the engineering and technical work performed in the department in conjunction with the Head of Technology and other CoE leads
- Work with the Senior Digital Testing Manager to create testing strategies, standards, processes, tooling and reference solutions for the engineering and technical work performed in the department.
- Measure, report and govern engineering performance, cost and quality to ensure compliance and necessary standards.
- Work with all CoE teams to ensure well planned environment provision across the Digital estate and instigate robust release planning across project phases and environments
- Work with project and product teams to estimate and resource initiatives and proactively engage to continuously improve operational effectiveness, cost and agility, whilst also removing and mitigating challenges to ensure successful delivery
- Consult and engage as part of Greene King’s strategy to expand Digital development capabilities in-house and initiate and manage engineering initiatives and projects to support this
- Investigate opportunities to exploit approaches that will have a measurable effect on process effectiveness and quality with associated benefits to the business.
- Encourage the wider adoption of digital engineering strategy and principles across the wider Greene King group being a catalyst for change and improvement
What you'll bring...
- Experience of building and leading a high performing software engineering team with unity and a combined purpose within a technology practice
- In depth knowledge of development practices within the Software Delivery Lifecycle
- Strong technical skills with experience across development languages and practises
- Understanding of the practicalities of delivering technical projects, solving problems both around technical delivery and people related issues
- An advocate of code quality, Continuous Improvement and industry recognised Best Practices
- Excellent knowledge of Agile development practices but also the application of hybrid approaches
- Experience of managing multiple third-party partners and vendors and have evidence of increasing the value received
- Experience of development across a range of core technologies
