Job Description

​​​​​​​As the Health and Safety Officer for the Bury St Edmunds Distribution Centre you will play a key role in driving, managing and improving safety across our three main operations at our Bury St Edmunds Distribution Centre (primary transport, secondary transport and warehousing). This varied role supports employees in a range of different work environments with different risk levels, and works as part of a welcoming and supportive team. 

This is an exciting time to join us, as we prepare to move to a brand new purpose built site at Suffolk Park in Bury St Edmunds in September 2024.

 

What does the role involve?

  • Overall accountability for health, safety and environment for our Bury St Edmunds distribution centre
  • Take ownership and lead the onsite management of Evotix digital SHE Management platform
  • Facilitate and sometimes lead SHE Audits and Inspections
  • Work closely and communicate clearly with the central SHE Team to close out any outstanding actions and drive consistency in SHE improvements 
  • Able to assist, review the complete site operations Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work to ensure that all safety related risks are identified, and suitable mitigation and controls methods are in place.
  • Monitor and review employee and contractor training and competence to ensure they have suitable information, training, instruction and supervision for their role
  • Assist with new starter onboarding, inductions and onsite training
  • Assist with the change onsite in relation to delivering a Safety Behavioural culture
  • Assist & Identify gaps in the current process where Safety can be improved and proactively implement sustainable solutions
     

Required Experience and Skills

To be successful in this role you will have previous health, safety and environment experience (ideally from a similar environment) with relevant qualifications to support this. As important as your experience, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to drive a safety culture across your business area
  • Ability to independently solve problems and introduce new ideas
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to present to and train groups 

Qualifications

The below qualifications are not essential, but would support your success in this role:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • IOSH Managing safely qualification 
  • Train the Trainer Qualification
  • Manual handling Trainer/Assessor, (Pristine Standards), this training will be given to you in the first couple of months
  • Computer literate- Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
