Company Description

As Financial Controller, you will play a key role within the Greene King Pubs finance and management team. You will directly support our Finance Director in ensuring financial governance and that key activities (month end, budget, strategy etc) are performed on a timely and insightful basis. Your role will deputise for the Finance Director in their absence and therefore is a valued and respected member of the Greene King Pubs management team and wider finance team.

Job Description

Your role as Financial Controller:

This is a pivotal role in a dynamic division and to push an agenda of data driving decision making. The person should be inquisitive, utterly reliable in their work, and able to build effective networks across finance and the business. The role needs to develop excellent working relationships with the Managing Director, and Leadership team members and be seen as a trusted partner.

Governance and control

  • Deputise for Finance Director when necessary and support on longer term strategy and investments
  • Ensure governance and financial control adherence of Greene King Pub formats
  • Close relationship with Greene King pub Finance Business Partners to ensure consistency and link into GK systems, processes, and governance.
  • Ensure Divisional financial controls are aligned to Authority Matrix
  • Review & sign off Divisional balance sheets – ensuring risks & opportunities are managed as part of planning processes
  • Work closely across the other Managed Divisional finance teams to ensure consistency of approach where appropriate
  • Ownership of consistency of Divisional Dartboards target setting and reporting
  • Support in identification / target setting / Reporting of Divisional Cost Efficiency Plans
  • Financial review and support for Transformation and Digital projects (as appropriate)
  • Short and longer-term integration of acquisitions
  • Review/management of Greene King Pubs planning and reporting

Monthly insight

  • Lead on the collation and presentation of the monthly results pack, and improve to better meet the needs to the business
  • Analyse the monthly financial results and monitor adherence to budgets & forecasts
  • Own the high level and forward-looking aspects of the monthly reporting such as causes of change, risk and opportunities and financial year outlook. Proactively identify business risks or opportunities and engage with the wider finance team and business to determine impact to the business

Financial planning

  • Lead on the Financial Planning for the business, including long term business plans, budgets and re-forecasts.
  • Oversee and manage the budget process, in conjunction with the Central and Business Partnering teams, to produce a well understood budget. Set targets for the business to ensure meeting internal and external expectations, and critically review each driver to ensure cost efficiency and recovery, and value for money in investments
  • Drive improvements to the forecast and budget process to ensure continued forecast accuracy
  • Act as an ambassador in the development of cross functional partnering, within the wider Finance function and across the business
  • Own the Divisional strategic plan financial models (and consolidation) and part of the strategic planning process with a voice to challenge decision making
  • Own the People & Office costs across Greene King Pubs

Developing Self and Others

  • Direct responsibility for the line management and personal development of the Greene King Pubs FP&A and Commercial Finance teams (6 heads, 3 Direct Reports)
  • Ensure direct line reports have comprehensive personal development plans, linked to their individual objectives
  • Ensure customer-centric focus and high levels of service (internal & external)
  • Support Finance Director in coaching divisional finance team and championing Greene King values & behaviours
  • Follow all relevant legal requirements
  • Continue to develop own talents and strengths and address any areas of self-development

What you'll bring:

  • Qualified accountant and meaningful PQE
  • Experience in Finance Control, FP&A and ideally financial systems
  • Advanced Excel skills – including Financial Modelling
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with a natural ability to explain and present financial data in simple ways.
  • Experience in a multi-site hospitality offering & working in a matrix organisation
  • Management experience having recruited, led and developed a team
