Emilia's Journey: From 9 to 5 to Fulfilling her Pub Passion at Greene King

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to turn your passion into a career? Emilia, a dedicated member of the Greene King family, did just that. Her journey began, just like many of us, working the typical 9 to 5 job. But Emilia’s heart belonged to the world of pubs and the vibrant atmosphere it offered.

As a regular customer at Greene King, Emilia couldn’t help but to dream of running her own pub. And when that opportunity finally knocked on her door, she didn’t hesitate to open it wide.

- AM @ Spice Island for 4months (Locals South, Premium)
- Holding GM @ The Cow, Ashley cross for 1 month, then (Locals South, Premium)
- Appointed GM @ the Cow in Ashley Cross (won ITM of the year), then appointed
- GM @ Bishops Mill (Locals South Chameleon then moved to PU) for 2 years, then appointed
- GM @ Grain and Hop Store (Chameleon PU) 21mths
- Designate BDM for Locals for 6 weeks, now BDM for Locals

Being exposed to all the changes as you can see above through Brands and Divisions, has given me a wide understanding of the Hallmarks, how to execute them, apply my personality and grow and support others in doing so. Not to forget the people I had the pleasure to work with, having believed in my capability and passion for pubs, guest and people. People who challenged me and really supported me in growing personally and in my career.

I have been really blessed by the support I have received from OM's, BDM's, OPs, Colleagues and my teams in every pub to further my career. I was given the freedom and actually encouraged, to be myself even to this day. I can be a bit bonkers and a bit much for some, but the outcome is the same "don't ever change" If I asked for extra responsibility, I was given it and coached. It's not just support, it's trust also. People see the potential and believe in you to do the job and are committed. I have to thank a few people that I found inspirational in their approach to the job and people, and that is what has influenced me. Another wise person once said to me: We can teach systems and process, but we can't teach passion.

What isn't there to like? Once your hooked and all that..... Seriously, the pub is a hub for people to get together, get some peace from the busy home life, relax after work, cry and laugh together. There isn't a occasion in life that can't be celebrated or lived out in a pub. I love being part of those occasions, just to listen or join in the fun. The team are my extended family, the heartbeat of the pub, different characters, all contributing to the fun, the tears, challenges, dramas and celebrations. Never a dull moment. I am proud to be able to coach, develop and pass on a few wise words myself. Seeing Team develop and become managers is quite satisfying and makes me proud to see them grow. The customer coming back time after time or just a one off visit. I love the organising events, the more challenging they are the better. There is nothing more challenging than a good wedding

I love to be ambitious and exceed targets, I am task driven but wear my heart on my sleeve and pride myself on honesty. All qualities that are useful in hospitality.. 

DO IT!!! I'm not going to lie, it's hard work, challenging at times but the rewards are there daily. The memories you build and the career opportunities are there.
